Startups and SMEs: Challenges and Opportunities to Overcome the Covid-19 Crisis

What do SMEs and startups need to come out of this current crisis strong? For the past few months all economies worldwide have been in the tight grip of an unprecedented pandemic crisis of a historic dimension that affects literally all realms of public and private life, that costs human life and vast amounts of money, that disrupts the economic, social and political order of the life as we have known it so far. With the uncertainty of how and when and at what final cost this crisis will come to an end society has to come to terms with the new situation and find ways how to best react to it. We all need to face the fact that there is not only an immediate short term threat to our health and lives but experts agree that also the expected economic fallout will be immense. The actual numbers and forecasts suggest that a large numbers of SMEs and start-ups worldwide will not survive this Covid-19 crisis. It is in our common interest and our common duty to attempt to make an appropriate analysis/evaluation of the likely consequences and to suggest and initiate the necessary actions to be taken. The foremost interest in this roundtable discussion is to analyze, comment and evaluate: the imminent risks for the Greek ecosystem with particular focus on SMEs and startups what economic and governmental assistance they need in order to survive this crisis the attempt of an outlook how they may remain viable after the crisis

He is one of the early adopters of digitalized assets supporting and utilizing technologies for decentralized economies. Edward has also been a part time associate professor of accounting and finance at Copenhagen Business School for several years. His research and teaching focused predominantly on capital market studies. Edward has been a contributor to the European Commission’s PRISM project on Intellectual Capital in venture-backed investments. He is currently engaged with advising several blockchain projects, ranging from payment and exchange to distributed general artificial intelligence.     Speaker: Soulla Louca Soulla Louca is one of the first academics to get involved in blockchain technologies (2014) when she assumed the responsibility of the Blockchain Initiative at the University of Nicosia. The Blockchain Initiative has designed and developed the first MSc worldwide in Digital Currency, the technology for publishing academic certificates on the blockchain and organized several events including Decentralized 2017. She is a professor in the Management & MIS Department as well as the Director of the Blockchain Initiative at the University of Nicosia.

Just Transition: Investing in Climate-Neutrality while Safeguarding Social Inclusion

It is designed to build a European market which will allow Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. It is fundamental that reaching this goal will not exclude anyone, guaranteeing a socially fair and just transition for all. During this webinar we will hear how the European Union wants to guide the transition towards climate-neutrality while safeguarding social inclusion, and which financial mechanisms will encourage this. Moreover, we will uncover which role the investors for impact can play in the Just Transition. Finally, we will learn why and how the European Green Deal, which puts both people and planet at its core, should also be the European long-term answer to the ongoing Corona crisis.
